Sad news for Opera fans, as the Norwegian developer announced one of its popular Android applications will be discontinued, Opera Max. Originally launched back in 2014, the application was meant to allow users to manage and reduce data usage on Android smartphones.

For whatever reasons, Opera has decided to discontinue the Android app and remove from the Google Play effective immediately. Apparently, the developer wants to focus on other services and stop pouring any resources into Opera Max’s development.

Opera has now decided to discontinue Opera Max. The product had a substantially different value proposition than our browser products, and represented a different focus for Opera. We, therefore, focus on our browsers and other upcoming services.

Those who still have Opera Max installed on their devices shouldn’t expect any new updates in the future. However, Android users will be able to continue to take advantage of what Opera Max has to offer until the developer will pull the plug on the service.

Furthermore, Opera Max users will be announced about the termination of server-side support when the developer decides it’s time to call it quits for good.
